With an embarrassment of riches to select from, 13 players in the top 25 of the world rankings are American, Davis Love has plenty of options as three of his four Ryder Cup wildcards are chosen on Monday.
The US team are desperate to win this Ryder Cup after three successive losses, and the effectiveness of their ‘taskforce’ will be under scrutiny.
Should they choose from the tried-and-tested Official World Golf Rankings, then the picks will be Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler and Matt Kuchar. However, Fowler and Watson have not been in brilliant form, with Fowler surprisingly missing out on the final 30 of the FedEx Cup.
Jim Furyk has a chance as a veteran but as a seven-time Cup loser, Love might be better off looking for new blood. JB Holmes’ tied 4th finish also puts him in contention, while Ryan Moore, Daniel Berger and Justin Thomas could be considered as outside-the-box choices.
