Bogeying the 72nd hole when a par would have been enough and missing out by just €100, there are few less agonising ways to lose your card than how Graeme Storm did at this year’s Portuguese Masters. Or so it seemed.
In a reversal of fortunes, Patrick Reed has been stripped of his 2016 European Tour membership since he will not contest the required five ‘regular’ events to maintain membership. His name has been removed from the European money list, meaning that Storm has moved up one spot to keep his membership for next season. Should Reed choose to rejoin the tour, he will still have an exemption of 5 years, based on his 2014 WGC Cadillac win.
Storm, who was looking at looking for irregular starts on the European Tour and Challenge Tour next season, can now look forward to a 12th consecutive year on Tour. The popular Englishman won the 2007 French Open. The news was announced by his wife on Twitter and many players tweeted support including Shane Lowry, Justin Rose, Darren Clarke and Thomas Bjorn.
