While golden oldies ruled the roost at the Australian Open tennis this weekend – 35-year-old Serena Williams and Roger Federer won the men’s and women’s singles titles – Sunday was a day for young players on the European and PGA Tours.
At the Qatar Masters, Jeunghun Wang won his third European Tour title at the age of just 21, making him the third youngest player to win three titles by that age, behind only Matteo Manassero and Seve Ballesteros. The 2016 Rookie of the Year, Wang underlined why he is so highly regarded in Qatar
On the PGA Tour, in surely most impressive golfing moment of the weekend, 22-year-old Rahm secured his first win with an amazing 60-foot eagle putt on the 18th hole to win the Farmers Insurance Open by three shots.
The Spaniard was a long-time World Amateur No 1 during an impressive US college career at Arizona State University, and finished tied 23rd at the US Open last year as an amateur.
A powerful and accurate player, he has all the tools to be an excellent addition to the 2018 European Ryder Cup should he progress as expected.
