Sex, drugs and rock and roll at the PGA Tour’s Coliseum

The fun never stopped on the 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, as an incredible 655,434 people attended the event over the course of the week, including 204,906 on Saturday.

Shane Lowry was one who embraced the boisterous atmosphere of the 163-yard par 3 stadium hole. The Offalyman, who finished tied 16th after finishing tied 6th here last year, said he “wouldn’t mind if golf was like this all the time.”

Lowry set himself up to be a crowd favourite by arriving with a bag of cans of Guinness – all of which were signed by the man himself – as cans were thrown out to lucky members of the audience.

While it’s a fantastic spectacle, respect for the competitors is also important, and the rowdy fans crossed the line with the winner Hideki Matsuyama heckled on different occasions.

Unfortunately, with booze-filled galleries, it comes with the territory. And according to Golf Digest, everything from hard drugs to sex in the toilets was happening at the 16th hole. It is truly the craziest stop on the PGA Tour.
