Mixed fortunes for the Irish at the Wells Fargo

It was a disappointing weekend for Seamus Power at the Wells Fargo Championship, as he finished in a tie for 49th place at Eagle Point. It had promised so much more, as the Waterford man had been in a tie for the lead at the end of play on Friday.

His tournament was derailed by a 77 on Saturday, where he only hit 7 of 18 greens in a wayward day. For tied 49th, he earned just $18,950, and at 141st, he missed a great opportunity to move into the top 125 in the FedEx Cup rankings.

Graeme McDowell was tied for the lead at one point on Sunday, but ended up tied 18th. The Northern Irishman bogeyed three of his final five holes to lose vital ranking points, three pars would have brought a top 5 finish.

Meanwhile, Shane Lowry will be somewhat satisfied with his top 25 finish given that he was three strokes off the cut, halfway through his second round. Lowry and G-Mac will go to Sawgrass next week for the Players, alongside a refreshed Rory McIlroy.
