
With the likes of Gavin Moynihan, Ruadhri McGee and Cormac Sharvin competing on the Challenge Tour, the road to the very top of the game might seem far away, as they look ahead to the Scottish Hydro Challenge in two weeks’ time.
Yet only four years ago, the new US Open champion was playing on the Challenge Tour, and it was a win at the Scottish Hydro Challenge that changed his career. It was his third win on the Tour that season, promoting him to the European Tour. Within two years he had won the European Tour, and then the PGA Tour, before impressing with three points at the 2016 Ryder Cup.
Always a prestigiously long driver of the ball, Koepka displayed finesse and accuracy to his game at Erin Hills, hitting 29 of the last 30 greens in regulation.
But his unusual route to the top for an American has ultimately held him in good stead. For the Challenge Tour’s best, the top may not be as far away as you think.
